Port Washington, Long Island, New York Port Washington is a hamlet in Nassau County, New York, on the North Shore of Long Island. Port Washington is part of the Town of North Hempstead. Port Washington is the terminus of New York State Route 101, and of the Port Washington Branch of the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) built at the end of the 19th Century. Port Washington is known for is easy commute to New York City, NY. Anticipating growth due to the railroad, the community was renamed from Cow Neck.
